Ryan Pratt is a composer and educator based in New York. He has composed for NYC ensembles including Ensemble Pamplemousse, Wet Ink, New Thread Quartet, Chartreuse String Trio, Talea Ensemble, Yarn/Wire and several soloists. His works explore the acoustic spaces of instruments through a numerical perspective of intervallic distances. This approach is expressed in his dissertation and an article published in the September 2023 issue of the music theory journal TEMPO. In the summer of 2023 he had the opportunity to do a residency in Moloka’i, Hawaii, where he studied pre-colonial Polynesian instruments. Ryan holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in composition at Columbia University where he currently teaches Music Humanities. He also teaches courses in Music in Film and Graphic Notation at Montclair State University and Hunter College, CUNY.
